Georgetown Day School

High School and Parking Garage

This project consisted of two underground facilities and one above-ground facility, which enhanced the capacity and functionality of Georgetown Day School: The underground one-story parking garage added capacity for parking 130 additional vehicles, while the underground gymnasium added two full basketball courts, a wrestling room, a weight room, a dance studio, and locker rooms. The above-ground lobby and classroom building addition provided a new entrance to the building, an indoor student gathering area, additional office space, and several classrooms and laboratory spaces. A synthetic turf field was installed overtop the underground gymnasium and parking garage. This project is an example of what is possible on a confined site in an urban environment if you have vision and are inventive. APM led the efforts to plan and build this complex building while the students and faculty continued on with their learning missions. Maximizing summer recess, APM coordinated the most challenging and noisiest work of the development, including raising the roof on the existing gymnasium to convert it into a black box theatre facility. The end result of this complex construction project gave the School an expanded campus with new academic and athletic facilities, a significant increase in parking on the site, and a major outdoor playing facility, all accomplished under budget and ahead of schedule.

“I want to express my enormous gratitude to you all for working so tirelessly on behalf of Georgetown Day School.”
– Kate Lindsey, Former Chief Financial Officer, Georgetown Day School
