Flint Hill School

Peterson Middle School

This project consisted of a new 49,460 SF 2-story Middle School building adjacent to the existing Upper School building. On the left side of the building is a two-story, light-filled multi-purpose space called The Commons. On the right side of the building, a ring of light-filled classrooms surrounds the Academic Atrium, which features two spacious project areas. There are two large innovation spaces to accommodate the needs and tools of the makers, robotics, and computer science courses and facilitate interdisciplinary projects. There are also science labs, a learning center, a spacious art classroom on the second floor, and small group meeting spaces. A large terrace runs the entire building's entire length with built-in stadium-style seating adjacent to the turf field, which is available to have lunch or hold classes outdoors. A state-of-the-art playground gives students an outdoor space to burn off some of that adolescent energy and strengthen social connections. APM managed the extensive sitework including new stormwater utilities, bio-retention facilities, new driveways and parking areas, extensive hardscape and landscape, and other site utilities. APM’s core strengths of budgeting, understanding the constraints and challenges of an occupied campus, proforma development, compliance, and contracting methods were critical to this project's success.

“Thanks so much to everyone for working so hard to get where we are to date. This is a huge exciting step for our school and we are truly grateful to have so many good people around the table making this all happen!”

“I couldn’t be more pleased to finish the school on time without claims, under budget, and all during a pandemic.”
– Ms. Anne Peterson, Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations for Flint Hill School
