St. John's College

In 1742 the Colonial Maryland Gov. Thomas Bladen mansion had bright beginnings. Funding disruptions caused the infenestrated project to fall into disrepair and become known as "Bladen's Folly". Thomas Jefferson noted in 1766 in Annapolis "they have no public building worth mentioning except a Governor's House, the hull of which after being nearly finished, they have suffered to go to ruin." St. John's College acquired the building in 1784 and completed construction for use as the classroom, dormitory, and administrative college building. Sadly, fire struck and required restoration in 1909. Since then, the historic building has only undergone one major renovation in 1989, until now.
