Gonzaga College Hill School
Synthetic Turf Field Replacement
Gonzaga College High School, the oldest educational institution in the old Federal City of Washington, is located on a 15-acre site in the heart of Washington DC. The existing synthetic turf field was nearing the end of its life expectancy. The subgrade was starting to experience shallow depressions necessitating more intense and costly maintenance in order to keep the field playable and safe. The project included removal of the existing synthetic turf field, installation of under field drainage, reestablishment of the subgrade, and installation of a new synthetic turf field. CHALLENGES: In order to achieve the school's requirement that the field be back online the first week of August when football practice started, the duration of design process was compressed to allow as much time as possible to navigate the District's unpredictable permit process.
